Instructions
-
1. Begin by preparing the chicken mixture. In a chopper, combine the chicken thighs and breast with garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, sugar, black pepper, and MSG. Crack in whole egg and process until smooth.
-
2. Shape the chicken mixture into nuggets and place them on a lined baking tray. Freeze for 30 minutes to help them hold their shape during frying.
-
3. Heat frying oil in a heavy-bottom pot, ensuring it is about 2-3 inches deep for frying.
-
4. Next, prepare the thin batter by whisking together plain flour, cornflour, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, black pepper, and mustard powder. Slowly add chilled water while whisking until a runny batter consistency is achieved.
-
5. In a separate bowl, combine plain flour and potato starch for the coating mixture.
-
6. Take the frozen nuggets and coat them in the flour mixture, then dip them into the thin batter to coat evenly.
-
7. Carefully drop the coated nuggets into the hot oil and fry for 7-8 minutes or until they are crispy and golden brown. Fry in batches to avoid overcrowding the pot.
-
8. Once fried, remove the nuggets from the oil and place them on a wire rack to allow excess oil to drain off and the nuggets to cool slightly.
-
9. Repeat the coating and frying process with the remaining chicken pieces.
-
10. Serve the homemade crispy chicken nuggets hot with your favorite dipping sauce and enjoy!
Note
1. Make sure the chicken is fully cooked before consuming. Use a meat thermometer to ensure the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
2. Be careful when frying the nuggets in hot oil to avoid splattering and burns. Use a deep pot and do not overcrowd the pot with too many nuggets at once.
3. Freezing the shaped nuggets helps them hold their shape during frying and prevents them from falling apart.
4. Adjust the seasoning in the chicken mixture and batter to suit your taste preferences.
5. You can customize the seasoning in the batter by adding herbs or spices of your choice.
6. Serve the chicken nuggets with your favorite dipping sauce or alongside fries for a delicious meal. Enjoy!
To freeze the chicken nuggets for later frying, follow these steps:
1. After shaping the chicken mixture into nuggets and coating them in the flour mixture and batter, place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
2. Make sure the nuggets are not touching each other on the baking sheet to prevent them from sticking together.
3. Place the baking sheet with the nuggets in the freezer and allow them to freeze completely for about 1-2 hours.
4. Once the nuggets are frozen solid, transfer them to a resealable freezer bag or airtight container. Make sure to label the bag or container with the date and contents.
5. The frozen chicken nuggets can be stored in the freezer for up to 1-2 months.
6. When ready to fry, there is no need to thaw the nuggets. Simply remove them from the freezer and fry them directly in hot oil until they are crispy and golden brown.
7. Enjoy your homemade crispy chicken nuggets whenever you crave a delicious snack or meal!
